Alright i have decided to write a blog about the difficulty of taking care of different type of show betta. My explanation is base on my own experience and i do not speak for everyone, this is just some of my point of view.
Our eyes are very costly sometimes hahaa, why?? Because when you started getting into the hobby of Show Betta, your hand will seriously get very itchy when you see a nice piece of betta for sale, without thinking much you just type PM, then I WANT, then PAY, then POST, then HAPPY!! But what most newbie who started betta hobby didint know is that, different type of betta have different type of method to taking care of it. And when you start to figure it out, your betta might be sick, fin rot, tail curled up or even dead.
Here is some of the rating of difficulty for the show betta.
HMPK = EASY -> MEDIUM (Short Fin)
HM = MEDIUM -> HARD (Long Fin)
CT = HARD -> VERY HARD

Let us start with the Halfmoon Plakat aka HMPK for short. Why is it easy to take care?? Well hmpk are short fin show betta, loooooooooong loooooooooong time ago they were crossed from the regular fighting plakat with halfmoon, and after years of breeding the stable line of HMPK is created.
HMPK are compact as they are more durable compare to HM and CT, they carried their ancestor's gene which allows them to recover fast from damaged fin and are not prone to fin rot.
They are consider the easiest type of Show Betta to own and breed, and they comes in many type of colors now a days.

Alright moving on, next is HALFMOON!! The VENOM we called it or at least i do hehe, as most of the people who started to have interest in show betta including myself was poisoned by the beauty of the halfmoon, with their long and broad finnage, the colors and the elegance when they swim, it just takes your breath away.
Why is halfmoon placed under the medium to hard category??
Well like they say "beauty comes with a price" hahaha, and halfmoon's beautiful finnage comes with a price, because of its broad caudal (the tail), it is very sensitive to the water condition it is placed in, when the water are not properly cared for the water will be infested with bacteria and those bacteria will start to stick onto the end of the tail and start nibbling thru your halfmoon's tail, when the halfmoon get irritated sometimes it will bite its own tail also, thats why most of the time halfmoon will face fin rot.

CROWNTAIL!!! Difficulty rating is HARD to VERY HARD, i personally taken care of CROWNTAIL before and for me, it is very hard to do so if you do not know the proper way of taking care of it, the water PH, the temperature the acid level and etc, you have to learn everything about water care if you want to be a successful crowntail breeder. I bought 3 pair of KING CROWN TAIL before and they never end up breeding, maybe the water are not suitable from them as they came from INDONESIA, and the water there are much more betta compare to our's in MALAYSIA.
The ray of the crowntail is the main concern when you are keeping one, for it to be a proper show crowntail to bring into competition, the ray must be straight, crowntail that stays in water temperature that is too cold or too warm or water acidic is too distance than what is suitable for them may faced CURLED up ray, if the ray curled up, it might not stand a chance compare to crowntail that have straight ray.

The cycle of a hobbyist changing their taste on show betta goes like this. (my own research)
Start with HALFMOON then continue to buy and buy and buy until suddenly FIN ROT attack, then slowly one by one died then they will start going for HMPK, discovered that it is much more simpler to take care and the maintenance is lesser, thats why sometimes the price of HMPK are higher compare to HM, and this is also one of the reasons why HMPK are more popular and most of the breeder breed HMPK when compare to HM or CT
